Discussing Money with Your Kids

Strong financial habits start early

A large majority of parents today believe it is important to discuss money with their children. You are probably among them, if you are reading this post.

Many adults also wish their own parents had educated them about finances earlier and in more detail. Some of us might remember being a teenager and having no concept of budgeting or planning for savings. Many adults have had to learn information the hard way, through trial and error...and maybe through more costly mistakes and missed opportunities than we would like to admit.

You don't have to leave your child to the same fate! It's never too early to introduce financial topics to children in an age-appropriate way. Now is the time to be proactive about speaking to your child about financial habits and knowledge.

You can bring your teen into financial discussions regularly, whether sitting around the breakfast table or in the car on the way to basketball games.

Some topics you to consider talking out with your teen:

- What a credit score is

- Price comparisons for grocery shopping

- How much income to save, spend, and donate

On the other hand, there are many reasons these topics might feel overwhelming: taboo subject of money, traumatic family finances growing up, difficult communication with your teen, or myriad others.

LifeSkills Point is here to help you and your teen!

Our financial literacy workshops provide a fun and hands-on environment for your child to gain real, practical knowledge to grow their financial knowledge and plant seeds to prepare them for their future.

LifeSkills Point's resources will give your teen tools and knowledge to help equip them for adulting. They will also give you, as their parent, a springboard for broaching this sometimes tricky subject of finances.

Check out our current workshop offerings and we can help you get started.

It's never too early or too late to start learning more. At LifeSkills Point, we believe in the power of education to prepare our youth for the complex world of adulting. Unlock your child's potential today by equipping them with the knowledge they need for tomorrow.
